I
am a practising professional artist and teacher and have
worked closely with the tourism and leisure industry, with
links to the Channel 4. Having been impressed with
the town and surrounding countryside at Westbury, my wife
and I recently decided to make our home here.We are so
relieved that a Public Inquiry has been granted into
Wiltshire County Council plans for a Westbury Eastern
Bypass. The Wellhead Valley, as can be seen if you click
on http://www.corridor-alliance.co.uk/
http://www.westbury-wilts-bypass.info/
is
presently an outstandingly beautiful and tranquil area
which provides an ideal environment for artists and
students to observe and create their drawings and paintings
in response to this unique landscape.
Quite apart from its enormous recreational benefit to
people, many of whom lead busy and stressful lives, it is
as a wildlife habitat for so many threatened creatures that
the path of this proposed bypass through the Wellhead
Valley can only be described as nothing other than an act
of vandalism. We both hope and pray that the Planning
Inspectorate's team of two Inspectors will find a way in
which to value this environment and give greater weight to
the need to protect such a magnificent area, than the few
seconds of journey time savings predicted for
vehicles. The landscape is beyond price and should be
preserved for the enjoyment of future generations of
residents, visitors - and creatures - alike. There are
alternatives, please let us all consider them carefully.
